An important thing to be aware of is that the size of your template really should be bigger than the finished size you would like for your pincushion. I used this plate to draw around on the fabric and had thar size of pincushion at the end…..
Once the embroidery finished, I sewed the 2 circles right sides together leaving a 5 cm openning , and clipping around.
I then finished it and VOILA!
Enjoy ULTRA TWIIIIIIIISSSSSTTTTT!!!!!
God probably hates you, but I LL LOVE YOU FOR EVA!
Then you can fold the bias to catch each flag nicely between the 2 layers of the bias, and sew it in place all long.
Then I still had enough fabric to sew a portrait blouse using the Portrait Blouse pattern in Gertie s essential sewing book: New Book for Better Sewing.
New Book for Better Sewing.

As I really loved that fabric I wanted a week end bag with it and used this very nice tutorial from Guthrie Ghani. http://www.guthrie-ghani.co.uk/blog/big-weekend-bag-tutorial-melody-miller-ruby-star-shining-fabric
And also a nice Tote Bag with a Union Jack in leopard print…….
At the end I could also make a purse which I am using as an embroidery travel case and a zipper pouch ( this one is gonna be one of the next tutorials).
ET VOILA, how to get a full set of clothes and accessories with a beautiful patterned curtains!
Well, let s get started! Errrrr,…..if Kylie agrees…..
Bon, on démarre! Heu,….. si Kylie est d accord……
Bottom corners: I like them round, so I just took a round object ( for sure you ll find something suitable in your kitchen!) to trace around all 2 bottom corners on each piece of fabric. Then cut.
The upper edge: Turn 3 cm of the upper edge with the weebing to the wrong side of fabric iron and pin in place. Sew all along with a medium zig- zag stitch.
Sew the bag together: Pin the 2 panels right sides together and sew along the 3 edges with a straight stitch, with a 1 cm seam allowance. For a clean finish you can use your pinking shears to cut all around.
Return the bag, iron it and be proud of yourself!
You can leave the bag this way or add a Lining for a more professional finish! For me linings can be a source of fun to add a quirky touch to an accesorize without overwhelming it. I ve chosen a parsley and flowers cotton fabric for the lining. Just cut the fabric like for the main fabric, also with the round bottom corners. Turn and pin in place 3 cm of fabric along the 36 cm edge and sew with a medium zig- zag stitch. Do the same for both pieces of fabric. Pin the 2 panels right sides together and sew along the edges with a 1 cm SA. Pink the edges.
ET VOILA!
